A special sick pay scheme for healthcare workers with Long Covid will end at midnight tonight.
They currently qualify for a temporary scheme that gives them full pay.
But from tomorrow, they'll only be entitled to ordinary sick leave, which it's claimed will cause a 'financial cliff edge'.
Tony Fitzpatrick, from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, says urgent talks are needed to resolve the issue.
"What they need to do immediately is to ensure that the special leave with pay continues for healthcare workers, to allow engagement directly between the HSE, Dee Power, and the department of Health with the health sector unions to solve this issue.
"What we need now is to put in place an a appropriate occupational scheme for healthcare workers who contract Covid-19 at work, and then subsequently suffer from long Covid."
