The Foreign Affairs Minister is admitting unpopular decisions may have to be made next week regarding covid restrictions.
Simon Coveney says the Government wants to press ahead with easing most restrictions on October the 22nd but they can’t ignore science.
More than 2,000 cases were reported yesterday.
Minister Coveney says they'll listen to what health officials have to say.
"The Government will be slow to move away from the plan we outlined many weeks ago.
"I think this is essentially a warning shot that there is still a significant level of Covid infection in society in Ireland.
"It has been there right throughout the summer, it hasn't increased significantly, but in the last week or so it's up about 12%, and we have to watch that carefully.
"Like at every point in this Covid pandemic, sometimes the Government has to make the right decisions, even if they're unpopular."
