It follows the failed appointment of Katherine Zappone to a UN Special Envoy role, with the party saying it wasn't done in a tranparent process, and amounted to cronyism, while also falling below the standard expected of Government.

The motion, which will be filed this morning says Minister Coveney failed to explain the handling of this appointment in a credible manner.

Taoiseach Michéal Martin says there needs to be perspective on the issue:

"If I'm honest, I think it was wrong. I think the perception is important in public life. The minister has apologised to me for not alerting us. And that is important, and the tarnished has, we've agreed this won't happen again, but there doesn't need to be prospective imbalances we're presented with a paradigm invite to the United Nations."
