Siptu's calling for all healthcare workers to be routinely tested for Covid-19 - even if they don't have symptoms.

The union says the measure's needed due to the concerning numbers contracting the virus.

24 per cent of all cases in the Republic are healthcare workers, which Siptu's Paul Bell says is a huge worry.

"We want a greater focus on the protection of the staff, which then protects patients and also protects the community.

"Some of our members would also be concerned that they would be bringing this virus around the community or into their family home.

"That's a normal concern whether it's Covid-19 or any other virus, so the precautions have to continually be reinforced."
