SIPTU Criticises Methods Employed To Decide On Home Support Levels For The Elderly

Some elderly people are having their home help hours cut so carers can focus on more vulnerable patients

SIPTU has criticised the methods employed to decide what level of home support people who avail of the service will be getting during the Covid 19 pandemic

Yesterday the Government confirmed some elderly people are having their home help hours cut so carers can focus on more vulnerable patients.
The workers will be re-deployed to residential facilities to meet the growing need for staff.

In a statement issued to RedFM News the HSE says any changes will apply to people who have been assessed as being less reliant on the service or people who will be in a position to cope temporarily without the home support service

However speaking to RedFM News SIPTU's Liam Allen says the home care workers themselves should be involved in the decision making process as they know their clients needs best
