Standoff continues at the back of Debenhams Patrick St. store

A standoff is continuing between Debenhams workers and a van it's suspected is removing cash from the Patrick St store in the city.

Former employees of the department store here in Cork staged a protest outside the Bank of Ireland on the South Mall at lunchtime calling on the bank, who holds a 5% stake in the business, to intervene and ensure staff receive redundancy payments.

Gardaí have arrived at the scene of the standoff at the back of the Patrick St store, but the former employees say they won't back down and say any cash or stock from the Irish stores should remain in Ireland.

Speaking to RedFM News Patrick St shop steward Valerie Conlon says the attempt to remove cash and stock from the shop was made while they were protesting on the South Mall earlier:
