For the first time in the 175 year history of UCC the college's final year medical graduates are being conferred online
In a special video message to the graduates the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, says in another first, every graduate of medicine will be offered an internship within the health system as part of the effort to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.
The graduation of the 197 UCC medical students was brought forward to assist the health service during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his message the Taoiseach acknowledged that they are graduating early without being able to celebrate with family and friends however he said the country needs them to begin work as interns in posts at hospitals and community settings from the middle of May. This means that practically everyone graduating this year will be offered an internship
