It's expected hospitality opening hours and crowd limits at events may be relaxed from next week.
NPHET is meeting tomorrow to make recommendations which cabinet will consider on Friday.
Speaking ahead of today's cabinet meeting, Taoiseach Micheal Martin says hospitals haven't been overwhelmed by Omicron:
"The fact that we've managed managed managed so far to weather that storm I think gives us grounds for optimism in that median term by March and throughout the year, we have to be mindful, of course of all the variants that may come and also the fact that even though the disease levels relative to previous waves are still fairly high, but that said, we can be optimistic about the median term."
