A patient has died from the virus in the east of the country.
As cases of Covid-19 continue to rise, a patient, believed to be a female, in the east of the country has died in hospital where they were being treated.
It is understood the patient initially presented with respiratory symptoms, and was later diagnosed with the disease when staff decided to perform a test.
It's also understood the patient in question was elderly, however it is not known if they had any other underlying illnesses.
Earlier this afternoon, the Mercy University Hospital confirmed they are treating 3 inpatients in Cork who have tested positive for covid-19.
