The Green Party Cork Are Calling For The City's Traffic Lanes To Be Opened To Cyclists And Pedestrians

It would be for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic

The call follows advise from Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan who said social distancing will be a part of Irish life until a vaccine is mass produced.

The party say traffic movements on major roads are 25% of what they were before the crisis and are calling for more to be done to allow people living in built up areas to exercise safely.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Lorna Bogue says some of her Council colleagues have already supported the idea, which it's also hoped will help traders cope with the restrictions:
