Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is describing the situation as precarious
NPHET met this morning and the Chief Medical Officer has warned the government there could be a significant rise in the number of cases over the next few weeks.
Travel restrictions will be lifted tomorrow for the Christmas period.
But Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has warned it comes at a worrying time:
'The situation is precarious. So, the R number for last week was calculated somewhere between 0.9 and 1. The latest we have from Professor Nolan as of today is an R number of between 1.1 and 1.3.'
