The announcement was made in the past hour, and follows a risk assessment carried out by the City Council which followed World Health Organisation guidelines.
In a statement issued to RedFM News, Cork City Council concluded that based on the demographic of those attending the parade, the close proximity of people attending the event and the duration of the event, Cork City Council is not in a position to provide the necessary assurances.
Parades in Blarney, Cobh, Midleton, Whitegate and Youghal have been cancelled in the past few days due to the spread of the virus.
Dr John Sheehan, Lord Mayor of Cork, says it was a tough decision to make.
