Two men are due to appear in court this morning as part of the Lyra McKee murder investigation.

They're the latest in a series of charges in connection with the case.

29-year-old journalist Lyra McKee was shot dead by dissident republicans while observing rioting in the Creggan area of Derry in April 2019.

Bofore yesterday's development, three men had already been charged with her murder, and another two had been charged with rioting and associated offences.

Last night PSNI detectives investigating the killing confirmed another development in the case.

Two men, aged 26 and 29, have been charged with rioting and throwing petrol bombs.

They're due to appear in Derry Magistrates Court via videolink this morning.

A 55-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday, has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Ireland has the fourth highest rate of Covid-19 in the EU - but it has the highest vaccine uptake in the bloc.

That's according to new figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

Only Slovenia, Lithuania and Estonia have higher 14-day incidence rates than the Republic, where 91% of adults are fully vaccinated.

A male pilot is believed to have suffered two broken legs in a plane crash in Co Wexford yesterday.

The female co-pilot also had a suspected broken leg, after the emergency landing near Carnsore Point at 5pm.

Another man and woman, seated at the back of the four-seat aircraft, suffered less serious injuries.

The two men are aged in their 20s and 50s, and the women are both in their 30s.

The former Minneapolis police officer - jailed for the murder of George Floyd - has launched an appeal against his conviction.

Derek Chauvin (PR: show-vin) was sentenced in June to 22-and-a-half years.

He was convicted after a video showed theformer police officer with his knee on the neck of Mr Floyd, for more than nine minutes while arresting him in May 2020.
