Shoppers have flocked to the city after weeks of lockdown and traders say there has been a steady flow in most shops all day.

The day is traditionally known as the day people travel to the city from all parts of the county for Christmas shopping.

Speaking to RedFM News John Neville of Neville Jewellers says while that tradition isn't as strong as it used to be people are still trying to get their shopping done early, "It's a fairly good day we're finding it very strong, the atmosphere is brilliant," he said.

"Lots of people in buying their gifts for Christmas. It used to be really where people came in from the country but there's less of that, much more people just starting earlier, and not coming in at the last week of Christmas".
