Tusla says its caseload has fallen with schools closed -- and it wants the public to know they can still report any concerns they have about the safety of a child.
In normal times, a quarter of the Child and Family Agency's referrals come from schools.
Patricia Finlay, Tusla's Services Director, says social workers are still working during the pandemic.
She says people worried about the safety of a child should refer to Tusla's website and contact the social work office in their area.
"If you hear shouting, screaming, roaring from houses late at night or at anytime during the day, if you have a concern that children are maybe not receiving food, it's really to make contact with Tusla.
"We're available, we're here to give information and advice, and primarily to support families to keep children safe during this stressful time."
