Two staff members of Bons Secours Hospital in Cork City have been instructed to self-isolate.
This follows the confirmation of a case of Coronavirus in the hospital. An elderly man who was admitted with a suspected case of pneumonia was diagnosed with COVID-19 following tests for the virus. This brings the total number of cases in Ireland to 21.
The Bons Secours patient is now in intensive care in a single room in the hospital.
Like the case in Cork University Hospital, the man in Bons Secours contracted the virus through community transmission opposed to travel related cases.
In a statement from Bons Secours, they said, "The patient is being cared for in a single room and contact precautions have been in place since the patient’s arrival. To protect patient privacy, we will make no further comment on the case.
"Coronavirus response teams have been in place at the Bon Secours health system for some time, with working groups at each facility and at group level."
The news of two staff members self isolating in Bons Secours comes after 100 staff at Cork University Hospital were briefed to do the same.
