A new early Covid detection monitor for healthcare workers is said to be showing promising results.
The system - which is being developed by UCC and tech company 8 West - checks the temperature and heart rate of healthcare workers and has been trialled in Cork University Hospital.
Professor Barry O'Reilly, director of the Assert Research Centre at UCC, says it will help protect health workers on the front line.
"We monitor the heart rate, and also the activity levels of the wearer.
"We can match all those parameters and look to see if we get that high temperature alert with that high heart rate, it is a sign that possibly a fever is developing."
