UCC Professor believes fourth wave is 'avoidable' but Government needs to act

Chair of Applied Pathogen Ecology Gerry Killeen says a decision on covid 'booster' shots needs to be taken further down the line

He says we need to keep our focus on Delta and learn all the things we need to learn to deal with that.

Professor Killeen says the Government must prepare for the autumn when schools and colleges are back:
"We've also got to keep an eye on also when we're reopening schools, universities, and, you know, we will not have a 90% of the population, vaccinated, and that's what we need, including children, to get towards herd immunity. And people also experimented herd immunity when you reach your herd immunity threshold, the size your epidemic starts shrinking by itself, it doesn't stop on the spot.
