UCC Student's Union call for reduction in college fees as students face year of financial hardship

A significant amount of the Student Union's hardship fund has already been used even though term hasn't yet started.

That's according to the Student Union at the college who held a demonstration on the quad today calling for a €500 reduction in the student contribution charge this year.

The organisation say they have been inundated with concerns from students who say their college experience will be different this year, with much of it taking place off campus, yet they're still paying the same fees.

Speaking to RedFM News UCC Students Union Welfare Officer Jamie Fraser says students are facing severe financial difficulties this year, and Government support is needed now more than ever:
