Cork Airport has described Ryanair's move to ground their flights out of Cork Airport for four weeks as a "body blow" but says they will not be closing as they continue to have two airlines serving three routes.

Ryanair's CEO Eddie Wilson told the Oireachtas Transport Committee that the bookings out of Cork were shocking -- and he called on the Government to move to support the aviation industry as a matter of urgency

Eddie Wilson said it's impossible to run an airline without demand but he says operations at Cork will resume on the 13th of December ahead of the Christmas season

The news came as Aer Lingus also revealed that it is to reduce it's frequency on the Cork/Heathrow route

Passenger numbers have plummeted at the Cork Airport with management bracing themselves for a loss of 2 million passengers by year-end

Speaking to RedFM News Niall McCarthy CEO at Cork Airport says they will not be closing the airport as they continue to have two airlines serving three routes and they're determined to rebuild their business.
