UPDATE: The Country's Chief Medical Officer Says The Country Still Has A Way To Go Before Restrictions Are Eased

Dr Tony Holohan was speaking at the Covid-19 press conference where he outlined that there have been 49 more deaths in the Republic.

The death toll from the disease now stands at 769.

631 new cases have been detected today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 16,671.

When asked about the possibility of restrictions being lifted in early May he says people need to continue to engage with the high level of compliance with the current restrictions which are in operation in an effort to suppress the virus

He says at this stage there should be no assumption that the restrictions will be lifted  next month

Speaking at the press briefing Dr Tony Holohan  gave more details on people who have been treated in ICU:
