Visitors to nursing homes will soon need to show their Digital Covid Certificate.
Updated guidance is expected to be issued next week, which will require people to show proof of vaccination or immunity when visiting a nursing home.
This week, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly asked the HSE to resume widespread testing of nursing home staff, as community transmission levels rise.
Nursing Homes Ireland is once again appealing to people not to visit a nursing home if they have any symptoms of Covid-19.
Chief Executive of Nursing Homes Ireland, Tadhg Daly, says nursing home operators are constantly balancing risk:
"With visiting, we're almost back to, I suppose what we would call, pre-COVID visiting. Clearly the challenge is in maintaining the visiting to ensure that we can get people in to see older people in nursing homes but it's also balancing the risk of COVID with the benefits of visits. One of the changes that's coming in the next number of days is vaccination status and checking and making sure that only those that are vaccinated will be in a position to visit with exceptions, obviously."
