The Taoiseach has revealed walk in vaccination centres will open this Bank Holiday Weekend.
Full details are expected to be revealed by the HSE later, while a decision is also set to be announced on vaccinating 12-15 year olds.
The vaccine portal has opened for 16 and 17 year olds this morning.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet, Micheal Martin said they want to get more young people vaccinated soon.
"I think it's been a very effective programme so far.
"We want to encourage high participate rates among the remaining age cohorts.
"The HSE will be adding walk in vaccination centres over the bank holiday weekend, to facilitate further vaccination among 16-18 year olds onwards in particular."
