The country's top health officials are warning Covid 19 could grow again if the restrictions are relaxed.
New modelling shows the virus has reached a plateau here and could now be under control.
Professor Sam McConkey is an infectious disease specialist at the Royal College of Surgeons.
He says the measures could be eased on a county-by-county basis - but there might be difficulties.
"Once you start getting too complicated and too many different divisions, then people can get confused as to where they are.
"I think it is possible even if it is just two areas, one is Dublin and one's not Dublin, that with clear communication and clear communication it is possible.
"I think that's a successful way that other countries have gotten out of this."
