West Cork GP welcomes the news that schools mid term break may be extended by one week

Dr Paul O'Sullivan, a GP in Bantry, has described it as a "move in the right direction"

The Irish Independent reports that schools are due to close from Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30, but the Government is now expected to add an extra week to the break.

Senior Coalition sources confirmed that while the proposal has been discussed no firm decision has been made on the schools closing until November 9th .

Dr Paul O'Sullivan, a GP in Bantry, has described it as a "move in the right direction" as he says since the re-opening of colleges in the city there has been a marked rise in referrals and cases of Covid 19 in the region

He is putting the rise in cases down to students from West Cork who live in Cork City to attend college returning home for the weekend.

Speaking to RedFM News in the past few minutes Dr O'Sullivan says if we don't take tough steps to get ahead of this virus now then we may be facing a disaster
