A county councillor says the Football Association of Ireland took too much time to make a decision on a piece of land in Glanmire.
Riverstown FC will take take over the County Council site at Brooklodge which was originally planned to be the FAI's centre of excellence.
After several years, the footballing body announced it wouldn't be pursuing the €10m project, stating it no longer represented a good return on investment.
Speaking to RedFM News, Local Councillor Anthony Barry says the land is needed for sport in the community:
"The FAI was sitting on the fence for quite a period of time. Definitely not happy to see that area of land laying idle and not being made available for public use for that length of time. But look at this stage we are where we are and at least we've come to an agreement with Riverstown and a wider base of sports and clubs will benefit from this in an area that's much needed."
