Parents of children seeking the return of therapies to a special school in Cork have written an open letter to the Tanaiste
They have come together to demand that St Killian's School in Mayfield is either included in a Government therapy pilot or funding is made available for therapists
The St Killian's Parents Unite group met with Minister of State Anne Rabbitte last year to highlight the lack of therapies in special schools since 2019
On foot of that meeting the pilot scheme was announced but in recent days it was revealed that St Killian's has been excluded from it
Speaking to RedFM News Fiona Coughlan whose daughter attends St Killian's says if the money is there then their children don't need to wait anymore
"So the government were already providing funding to provide private therapies in two schools already. If it's already been done elsewhere, why can we not do it? She led us to believe we could, and then we heard nothing for nine months from her. We're ready to go, we have the providers in place, it means there's no more waiting. So if the money is there and the solution is there, why are our children being punished? Why are they being left to wait longer - with more and more damage being done to them"
