The development of a new surgical hub in Cork is progressing.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the planning application for the hub at Cork University Hospital has been lodged and "enabling works are underway".
Six such hubs are to be built across the country, to reduce day-case waiting-lists until planned regional elective hospitals come into service.
A design team for the new elective surgical hospital at St Stephen's Hospital in Glanmire has still been appointed.
