Bandon's €30.5 million flood defence scheme has been officially opened.

The scheme ensures 392 properties are now protected from potential significant flooding, 177 of which are residential and family homes in the local Bandon area.

Unveiling the new Scheme, OPW Minister Patrick O’Donovan said he had seen first hand the devastating impact that flooding has had on the town over the last decade and said he knows what the scheme means to the people of the town.

He added that all OPW flood relief schemes, factor in climate adaptation at all stages of planning and works and, in doing so, ensure that homes and communities across the country will be protected when it comes to facing the effects of climate change

The Bandon Flood Relief Scheme is one of eight OPW flood relief schemes completed across County Cork.
