English language schools in Cork say it's a relief that students can now apply for residence permits in Dublin.

It was announced yesterday that from July 8th the registration of immigration permissions in Cork and Limerick will be centralised in the capital.

It comes after students coming to Cork to study English for 8 months were spending 4 months waiting for appointments to secure a work permit.

Speaking to RedFM News, David Russell from the Progressive College Network says the new system will work much better:

"If we take into consideration that their course, plus their holidays at the end of the course, ismonths, to be waiting four months for for their appointment, is a little bit ridiculous,. The way things work now, in Dublin, is that the students arrive, they make their application, they wait in the region of two weeks, and they go in, they meet the officer, give them all the documents that they need to give."
