There are fears the stalled upgrade of the N25 could affect plans for 6 and a half thousand new homes in East Cork.
The county council recently approved 4000 new homes to be built in Carrigtwohill and 2,500 new builds in Midleton.
However local councillors say the section of the road between Carrigtwohill and Midleton already has severe delays and will need to be upgraded before construction of any housing development begin.
Speaking to RedFM News local councillor Anthony Barry says the plans to upgrade the road shouldn't of been scrapped last year:
"I mean the whole issue you have with this? I mean, that's actually infrastructure, i.e roads and cycle paths. That's just essential and you know the minister has withdrawn the funding for the county to Midleton upgrade. I don't think people fully understand the effect that has."
