The Finance Minister says the Cabinet will discuss a request for a “very substantial” increase in public funding for the Cork Events Centre in the coming weeks
The Department of Housing is to consider a report from Cork City Council before the project is discussed by the Cabinet, however it has not revealed how much more money is being sought.
It’s one of the longest-delayed projects in the city, with the 8th anniversary of the sod-turning happening in ten days’ time.
Speaking to RedFM News Michael McGrath says project has has a chequered history:
"This is a project that has had such a chequred history going back over a long number of years, with too many false dawns, and too many promises. The government now has to make a decision and we have to have the full picture. All of the facts and all of the costs so we know exactly what we're getting into".
