Fórsa says local authorities across the country will experience a "summer of strife" unless they are willing to negotiate with the union.
The trade union which represents over ten thousand local authority staff across the country announced their members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action in a row over job evaluations yesterday.
Fórsa says the disagreement began during the financial crisis when thousands of jobs were lost and staff were given extra duties and responsibilities that were above their pay grade.
The union says the Local Government Management Agency which represents the county’s 31 local authorities has refused to negotiate with them on the matter.
Speaking to RedFM News, Richy Carrothers from Fórsa says local authorities will experience significant disruption if they don't engage with the union.
"My message to the employers is simple - get back to the negotiating table to hammer out a deal that we all can live with, or the alternative is that we are going to engage in a summer of strife, which is going to see unprecedented action, up to and including strike action right across the local government sector.
"WE're staring down the barrel of a summer of discontent if employers do not reengage in meaningful discussions."
