The Gaelic Players Association say that the health and safety of their members won't be risked as they come to terms with the new realities of the coronavirus pandemic.
The organisation's Chief Executive, Paul Flynn, has acknowledged there is a genuine possibility there will be no return to action in 2020.
Kerry footballer Stephen O'Brien is open to the prospect of playing matches behind closed doors if the environment allows.
"From the players' perspective once the ball is thrown in it doesn't really bother you too much.
"I don't know if it's feasible to play games behind closed doors, for the people who can't go to the match to see it in person it's going to be a huge thing.
"As a player I'd be okay with it, but I don't know if it would be feasible."
