Limerick are celebrating landing their fourth All Ireland Senior Hurling title in five years this morning.
Man of the match Gearoid Hegarty scored 1-5 as John Kiely’s side edged out Kilkenny by two-points in yesterday’s decider.
It’s the first-time that the Treaty County have completed a three in-a-row and their captain Declan Hannon made history by lifting the Liam McCarthy for a fourth time.
Manager John Kiely says the win has proven that they deserve their place as one of the best teams of all-time.
"There were certain things about the last two, which would be demeaning of those. But we knew the value of them, we knew the worth of them, and we knew how much we had put into them - and how much every other team had put into them as well.
"This is the culmination of a really, really tough season for us. We had a lot of setbacks throughout the course of the year with injuries and what not, it was really tough and I'm just really thrilled for the lads."
Limerick captain Declan Hannon says there's a 'great hunger' among their panel to build on their three in-a-row All-Ireland success.
The Adare man made history by becoming the first captain to lift the Liam McCarthy on four occasions.
Hannon says Limerick's ability to edge close encounters this season helped them to get over the line.
"That's why they [Kilkenny] have won so many All Irelands throughout the years, that's why they're the kingpins.
"We've learned so much from Kilkenny down through the years, in how they play the game and how they keep going and going.
"Again today, we built up a couple of leads but they kept on coming back, the momentum was probably with them in the last 5 or 6 minutes when they drew level and it looked like they were going to push on.
"In the Munster final and the All Ireland semi final we ground out games in the last 5 or 6 minutes, and that experience stood to us."
