A knockout format may be too harsh on teams in this year’s All-Ireland Hurling championship according to Cork’s Shane Kingston.
The UCC forward believes teams deserve at least one chance to redeem themselves should they lose on their first outing.
Kingston, who was named the Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Star Hurling Player of the Year, thinks whatever the format, teams will be glad to have championship back.
"A knockout format, or one back door is probably the best approach.
"Teams aren't really getting the chance to train, that if they were to just have one game and mess up the first game and be gone, it's probably a bit unfair.
"The fact that we have anything at all I suppose is very positive, and we have to be optimistic about the whole thing.
"We could have had nothing, whereas now we do, and it's something to look forward to."
