The amount of money spent on Garda overtime has increased by a third in the past two years.
Last year's bill was nearly €130 million - compared to €114 million in 2021, and €99 million in 2020.
According to freedom of information figures, one sergeant got almost 65-thousand euro in overtime last year.
Brendan O'Connor, the president of the Garda Representative Association, says many young officers are leaving the force early.
"There's a phenomenon in recent times where we see the numbers choosing to resign from the job.
"It's something that wouldn't have been a feature in decades gone by - last year we saw in excess of 100 people choosing to resign from the organisation."
