Gardaí investigating the murder of Baby John say they believe there are members of the public who have information that could help solve the case.
The body of the infant who was found dead on a beach near Cahersiveen Co. Kerry in 1984.
His remains were exhumed yesterday and examined at University Hospital Kerry as part of a renewed investigation into the case.
Journalist with The Kerryman Sinead Kelleher says yesterday's examination was a significant development in the investigation.
"DNA is the way forward to discover the parentage or the relations of this baby that was found on the White Strand in 1984.
"Back in 2018 the investigation was relaunched, and DNA became a key part in the investigation back then with samples taken from the local community."
An examination of the remains took place at University Hospital Kerry and were reinterred at Holy Cross Cemetery in the afternoon.
Former head of the Cold Case Unit, Alan Bailey, says exhuming the remains of Baby John was unfortunately necessary.
"The advancements in DNA, and in familial DNA identification, make it an awful lot easier than what it used to be.
"That's what led to this development yesterday.
"I know it sounds like a gruesome thing to do, but it was very necessary, and it will go a long way to help solving this case."
