Gardaí in Cobh are continuing to appeal for witnesses after what's been described as a horrific attack on a man in the town.
The assault happened in a car park on Newtown Road shortly before 9 o'clock on Friday night.
A man in his 30's was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
Speaking to the Neil Prendeville Show, Southern Correspondent with The Irish Times Barry Roche says it's understood the two people involved in the incident may have arranged to meet:
"The injured man he approached a man in the car in the car park only for the occupant of the car to get off the Samurai sword, one Garda described it to me as a absolutely horrific attack. They're keeping an open mind to set the stage on a possible motive for it but they believe perhaps that the injured man may have arranged to meet them and so they're checking his phone for any messages or calls he may have received and tried to trace those as well."
