Gardaí are investigating an assault that occurred outside a petrol station in Curraheen on Saturday shortly before midnight.
In a statement to Cork's RedFM Gardai say it is understood that a number of people were involved in the altercation.
One male was seriously injured during the incident.
He was treated at the scene by ambulance services and taken to Cork University Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
A family member contacted the Neil Prendeville Show on RedFM this morning and say the 18 year old sustained life changing injuries.
"Paramedics were called, the police were there. He was brought to CUH for CT scans on the brain, to see if there was bleeding on his brain.
"He's unrecognisable to be honest. There isn't a tooth in his head that isn't work. He needs severe dental work to get back anything that he had. All his teeth are gone."
