Gardaí have received over forty-one thousand callouts to instances of domestic violence so far this year.
While the number of callouts have increased every year for the past decade.
The Government has previously said combatting domestic violence is a key priority.
Aontú Leader Peadar Tóibín received the figures via a parliamentary question, and he says the Government need to do more:
"There's no doubt in my mind that the startling difference between 13,000 just 10 years ago, and 45,000 now shows a radically different situation. There's a change in culture happening and the government needs to fight the behaviour that's leading to this violence, and they also need to provide more supports to women who are suffering this violence".
