Gardaí say some road users need to wake up to the fact that they are not invincible.
Road fatalities are on track to be the worst in six years, with 46 more people dead this year compared to the same day in 2019.
1,800 motorists have been caught speeding in the past week, 200 have been fined for using their phones and 50 have been caught without a seatbelt.
Speaking to RedFM News Inspector Gillian Synott from the Cork City Roads Policing Unit says a change of mindset is needed:
"Well in relation to roads policing numbers, all members of An Garda Síochána are frontline members and they're all responsible for roads policing. In relation to that, over 70% of the drivers under-the-influence arrests were actually done by frontline regular policing members. So all members have a part to play in that. In relation to the issue of FCPN - over 25% have been issued by frontline, and the rest by roads policing members".
