More Gardaí will be around the city today policing theft and anti-social behaviour.
There will be an increase of Garda presence around the main shopping areas as part of the Christmas policing plan.
Money skimming, theft and anti-social behaviour are local business owners main concerns.
Speaking to RedFM News, Eileen Domiati of Dulce Bun House on Oliver Plunkett Street says it’s vital that people feel safe in the city:
"When it's really busy and there's a lot of drinking going on in the streets, there does need to be that presence there for people to be reassured that they're safe, especially now at this time of year when families are coming into the city with their children - that they see that presence there".
Business owners say shop thief's can take advantage of busy stores during the Christmas period.
Speaking to RedFM News, Miriam Rea of Sheena’s Boutique on Oliver Plunkett Street says theft is always on the rise this time of year:
"Coming up to this festive season, it does happen. Oopportunists are here. Theft can be on the rise, theft could be on the increase. We try to deliver the best service that we potentially can. However, from time to time, there may be a need to have Gardaí close nearby to help support retailers during this very busy period".
