A Fine Gael Minister is encouraging Sinn Féin to go to the Gardaí if the party has evidence that Minister Simon Harris leaked information from Cabinet.
Under Dáil privalege last night Deputy Matt Carthy alleged the Higher Education Minister told journalists about the proposal of appointing Katherine Zappone to a UN Special Envoy role.
Minister Harris has denied the allegation.
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar is currently under Garda investigation surrounding the leaking of a confidential GP agreement in 2019.
Junior Minister Peter Burke says any wrongdoing should be reported.
"There are independent processes in our state which we as politicians shouldn't get involved in if you have evidence of wrong doing.
"Deputy Carthy abused Dáil privilege. This is about throwing muck at the wall and hoping some of it will stick."
Earlier today in the Dáil, Minister Simon Harris has criticised Matt Carthy for last night's allegation.
"I was named in this house, in my absence, my unavoidable absence.
"What was said in my view was misuse of Dáil privilege, and I want the record of this house to show that it is untrue."
