A GoFundMe campaign established to raise funds for the inpatient care of a Cork woman who has been living with an eating disorder for a decade has raised nearly €40,000.

30 year old Lisa Murphy says she's afraid she will die unless she receives inpatient care.

Lisa developed bulimia and anorexia and is receiving outpatient care but can't get inpatient care because she doesn't have health insurance.

A three month inpatient stay in Dublin costs around €60,000, which prompted Lisa's friends to set up a Go Fund Me campaign which has raised over half of the funds needed .

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, Lisa says she was shocked to learn that there are only three inpatient beds for people with eating disorders in the country.

"Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health condition.

"It's so desperately underfunded in this country.

"I don't understand it, to be honest."
