Some students could miss out on their preferred college course this year because of grade inflation.
More than 84,000 applicants will get a CAO offer this afternoon, when the first round is released.
However points requirements are set to increase after a record number of students secured high Leaving Cert grades last week.
Former President of the Institute of Guidance Counsellor, Betty McLaughlin says despite extra college places, some students could be left disappointed.
"The points are determined by the results students get, by the number of places that are available and the number of applicants for that place.
"It will be revealed at 2pm, it may cause upset for some students, and if you are upset, if you're unsure, please don't hesitate to consult the helpline run by the National Parents Helpline."
