The High Court has ruled the Standards in Public Office Commission's decision not to investigate claims Leo Varadkar leaked a confidential GP contract was 'inadequately reasoned'.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy brought the case after SIPO decided not to investigate the former Taoiseach's decision to provide a copy of the contract to a friend of his in April 2019.

Leo Varadkar accepts what he did wasn't best practice, but asserted there was nothing unlawful about it.

The decision not to investigate him was quashed, and Paul Murphy believes SIPO now has to consider its next steps:

"The judge has firmly put the ball back into the court of SIPO by saying the matter should be remitted to the commission for further consideration. So I presume SIPO will have to meet and to decide what to do. The most obvious thing that I think they will do is now to proceed to investigate my complaint against Leo Varadkar, and I hope that that happens as quickly as possible".
