Home and business owners in Midleton say they're like sitting ducks waiting for the next flood.

Around fifteen hundred people protested in the East Cork town over the weekend calling for flood relief measures to be put in place.

There are calls for embankments to be built, drains cleared and rivers dredged to ease the fears of 500 homeowners and 250 business owners who were hit by flash flooding last October.

Speaking to RedFM News, Caroline Leahy of Midleton Flood Action Group says recent thunderstorms brought huge fears for locals:

"It's an ingrained anxiety at this point, you know, we have constant fear. It is summertime and there was this flooding in places like Waterford over the weekend even in the middle of the summer. So, you know, it's around the corner constantly for us. It's not just storm season. It's hanging over us the whole time. Literally a cloud hanging over us the entire time. We're like sitting ducks just waiting for the next flood."
