It's hoped that the backlog of women in Cork waiting for a BreastCheck exam will decrease - following the opening of a third screening location in the city.

The new BreastCheck unit opened on the grounds of St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Gurranabraher yesterday.

Free breast screening is available every two years for all women aged between 50 and 69.

Speaking to RedFM News BreastCheck Programme Manager, Suzanne Lynch says screenings are behind schedule since the pandemic:

"But to be honest, we are a bit delayed in certain areas so some women might be 53, because the round - it depends on when we get to that area. And this will help because it adds to our capacity here in Cork".
