The HSE is warning of the dangers of over exposure to the sun particularly for young children.

With the weather set to improve over the weekend parents are being urged to protect children against the dangers of UV rays, which are are stronger between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.

The HSE Be SunSmart is teaming up with GAA Cúl Camps to raise awareness of the danger of exposure to UV rays.

Specialist in Public Health Medicine, Dr Breeda Neville, says parents can take a number of easy steps to protect children:

So we can all protect our skin and enjoy the outdoors. This is important, particularly for parents of young children by following the Healthy Ireland sun smart 5S:  Slip on clothing, Slop on a broad spectrum sunscreen, Slap on a wide brimmed hat, Seek shade outdoors and Slide on sunglasses to protect our eyes".
